Author : RinoaTheMaster Posted : August 16 2008 08:28:09

Tanda posted the Pet Skill trees for Epic 5 pets. He also released the Rappelz Official Wiki (which really isn’t a wiki since its not publically editable). Heres the scoop.

Hello,

In case any of you were looking for information on the new pet skills, we have the new pet skill trees up on the Rappelz Wiki.

BTW we still need contributors to the wiki!

TheTurtleTimes : Downloaded and Ready to go!
Author : admin Posted : August 16 2008 13:51:55

So, I finally finished downloading the client (Rappelz_USA_080805). Quite big at 2gb, but not unusual for a game these days. Patching was over in seconds downloading at about 100kb/s according to my Internet Monitor Server. Not bad if I say so myself.

Now installing and getting ready to play I think first impressions require a post of their own, more on this after I get something for dinner.

TheTurtleTimes : Woah. The amount that hasn’t changed surprises me :)
Author : admin Posted : August 16 2008 14:20:25

Starting up the client greats me with a animated image of some kind of rift in space and time? Still, quite impressive methinks. Logging in nothing special, apart from the fact I can now look at credits and change my secondary password (this password is used for password protecting the warehouse that you store items in and then share between characters on the same account)

Logged into Yeti (my server of choice) and chose one of my old characters just to have a look around. First thing I notice is that they now have many different loading screens when you are loading,  sometimes loading can take up to two minute on my older computers, great for a short break between grinding :)

As soon as I log in I am greeted by about thirty players who are all doing their idle animations in Katan. This is because NFlavor decided to take off Stamina when you are offline, opting to make us pay for the stamina if we want it offline. However you can get a low powered laptop to AFK in the middle of the town, but ultimately the power bill can cost more than if you just brought a Tent from the item shop.

They also have Guardians now, that Patrol the towns, level 200 but at this point of time they don’t attack or seem to do anything but walk. My guess is that they will attack people with bloody names and/or Wrath that take a trip to town, however if the guards kill them, they will be sent to town, and the whole thing will repeat itself.. we can only wait and watch I suppose.

Shout chat was acting per normal, blaming the GM’s for developers errors, something they have no control over and another person whining about rappelz and how people can pk. No surprise that my guild was empty apart from only me, 7 months of inactivity does that to a guild ;)

After skilling my Tortus (The best pet in rappelz, not in power but in personality… yeah my tortus talks to me) and hoping I havn’t stuffed up him too badly, maxing the defence passives and then getting a few attack spells, I got Weapons and Armor (there is an event on currently for returning players, they get free weapons and Armor for a limited  time) I then decided to call it a day and go out on to the field later. Grinding at 1am is not what I want to get back into, MMO’s tend to be addictive but I think I am strong enough to know when enough is enough… for the time being anyway ;)

More info after the break.

TheTurtleTimes : The Lag Monster shows it’s ugly head.
Author : admin Posted : August 16 2008 14:47:18

I know I said I was going to sleep but I must vent… I own four computers, one as a server, one as a media center and two that I use for gaming and browsing the internet. One of these computers is a beast of a computer, and can play Crysis at Ultra High and get about 40fps average. That same computer gets 28fps in the middle of a town. You may say “But Crysis has better graphics, Physics to render, and alot more load on your system? How can a game, with no Physics to render, and graphics that are many times worse give you less performance?”, this is a problem that has plagued Rappelz since it’s release of the Epic2 client.

This is yet another one in the long list of problems that have not been fixed by the developers. The lag is caused because the client program is bloated and not optimised enough. For example in why this could slow the game down, instead of using five lines of code to do something, it uses twenty, that means your computer must work four times as hard to carry out that operation. Another problem the Rappelz client has, is the memory leak. Granted it was not as bad as it was in the start of Epic3, but still after playing for some time, computers with under 2gb of ram will start to have some stuttering problems, and in a MMO that usually means death as your computer lags but the servers don’t.

You may think, “Why don’t they just fix the code”, the answer is simple. “The developers are lazy”. They send out new content and try to distract the Rappelz community by giving them small changes and small additions, while forgetting about the bigger picture. The pet cancel bug was one of the worst bugs I have seen in a game, (when pets used skills they stopped attacking and casting the skill about 80% of the time) and made some pets very hard to use. This went on for about six months if I remember correctly, and new dungeons and weapons and items were released before it was fixed (granted the error only occured on the International Rappelz not the korean, but you would think they would try and find out why, since Gpotato has brought the rights to their game to sell it to people over the world). One would think the bugs should be fixed before new content is released, but it seems the developers are more focused in releasing content for an already buggy game.

The recommended spec’s on the main download page would require someone with alot of patience, as I found the weakest rig to play rappelz on without much spikes, would be a 7600gt, with 1gb of ram and a 1.8ghz core2 or equivalent. Just something to watch out for if you play this game.

There is also alot of Server side lag again, due to the fact that rappelz net-code is not one of the best, however that is only really seen in seiges. A little bird told me that in less than two months we will be getting upgrades to some of the servers, so watch this space.

TheTurtleTimes : Short Guide on the Common Acronyms that Rappelz Uses
Author : admin Posted : August 17 2008 01:03:58

This is a short guide on what you may see in the Rappelz world
Edit: I found a better list than mine on the Rappelz Forum, I have edited it a tiny bit in some places for your reading pleasure.

(number) + - At least that level or higher. For instance, people will shout for a 55+ party, meaning they want people higher than level 55, and likely NOT higher than level 65
(number) + (number) - Referring to pets, the first number is the pet’s current level and the second number is the pet’s number of overbred levels. For instance, 65+10 would refer to a pet that is currently level 65, and has 10 overbred levels.
(number)x - Somewhere in that ten-digit level range. For instance, someone between 20 and 29 would be 2x and someone between 80 and 89 would be 8x
(number).(number) - The person is at the first number’s level and the second number’s percentage to the next level. For instance, someone who is 70.8 is level 70, and is 80% of the way to 71.
