I'm at the stage, where everything I thought meant something, seems so unappealing.

It has been hard putting this entry together because I'm fecking furious with Linden Lab right now. I only have one Openspace sim, I have never been that keen on them and have said more than once that I expect them to crash, I didn't envisage that crash would happen in the fashion it has.

I do not, myself, believe in conspiracy theories that this was all some sort of cunning plan by the Laboratory, a “bait and switch” as the phrase has it, to encourage the purchase of OpenSpace areas and then suddenly charge more for them. The main reason that I do not believe these theories is that it would imply a level of long-term planning, and successful long-term planning as well, that I consider utterly unrealistic for the Laboratory.

I would like to offer up this blog post as a clearinghouse for other links to people expressing their concerns about the announcement regarding pricing changes for the OpenSpaces sims. These sims were set up for people wanting to put together multiple sims for sailing or flying, where a lower limit on prims was made and Linden Labs felt the sims wouldn’t require as much server bandwidth. Craps Mariner created a Flickr group to celebrate what will very likely be lost due to the change in policy.

Sure, it’s nice to see that Jack Linden did actually read the comments in the forums, and it’s kind of cool that he replied to my short comment, but read his response:

I think it is useless for me to mention how outraged most of the SecondLife community is at the moment, regarding Linden Lab’s latest decision to give us an in-your-face price hike on OpenSpace sims with no grandfathering clause. Neither on what exact incentives are behind this decision but pure greed and profits.
